Newly elected One Nation MP David Farley has emerged as one of the wealthiest members of Australia’s federal parliament following the release of his register of interests, highlighting a long business career that preceded his entry into politics.
Farley, who won the Farrer by-election earlier this year and became One Nation’s first elected member of the House of Representatives under the party’s own banner, disclosed a diverse portfolio of agricultural, property and investment interests in accordance with parliamentary transparency requirements.
According to published disclosures, Farley’s wealth is primarily linked to an extensive agribusiness portfolio developed over several decades. His register lists five properties, including residential, commercial and industrial holdings, together with investments in listed companies, commodity trading interests and consulting activities. Some of these interests are held through family trusts, a structure commonly used for business and estate planning.

Before entering Parliament, Farley built his career in Australian agriculture. He worked as a jackaroo early in life before moving into agribusiness leadership, later serving as chief executive of Australian Agricultural Company (AACo). During his corporate career he held senior executive positions and accumulated significant experience across livestock production, rural investment and agricultural management.
The published financial disclosures place Farley among the wealthiest members of the 48th Parliament. Reports indicate that his financial position is comparable with several high-profile parliamentarians who have accumulated substantial assets through business, investment or professional careers before entering politics.
Australia’s parliamentary Register of Members’ Interests requires MPs to declare property holdings, company directorships, investments, trusts, gifts and other financial interests. The purpose of the register is to promote transparency and allow the public to identify any interests that could potentially intersect with parliamentary responsibilities. Disclosure itself does not indicate any wrongdoing or conflict of interest.
Farley’s election was historically significant because it marked the first time a One Nation candidate had been elected directly to the House of Representatives under the party’s own banner. He secured the seat of Farrer at a by-election held following the resignation of former Liberal leader Sussan Ley.
Since entering Parliament, Farley has attracted attention both for his business background and for several early parliamentary votes as he adjusts to federal politics. Political observers note that his experience reflects a broader trend of candidates entering Parliament after long careers outside politics, bringing expertise from sectors such as agriculture, business and finance.
As Parliament continues its work, the publication of members’ financial interests remains an important part of Australia’s transparency framework, helping ensure public accountability while allowing elected representatives to maintain private business interests within the disclosure rules established by Parliament.
