New Footage Emerges As Australian Faces Murder Charges In Thailand Suitcase Case

Thai authorities continue investigating the death of a 17-year-old girl after an Australian man was charged over a case that has attracted international attention. The investigation has intensified following the release of additional CCTV footage and police videos documenting key moments before and after the suspect’s arrest.

The case centres on events that unfolded in Pattaya, where investigators allege the teenager was last seen entering a condominium with Australian national Simon Peter Carman. Police later discovered the girl’s body inside a suitcase abandoned near railway tracks, leading to a major homicide investigation.

According to Thai police, CCTV footage shows the teenager entering the condominium with Carman during the early hours of the morning. Later the same day, surveillance cameras allegedly captured Carman leaving the building alone while moving a large black suitcase. Investigators say the suitcase later recovered near a railway line matched the one seen in the surveillance footage.

Police arrested Carman at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport as he was preparing to leave Thailand. He has since been charged with murder, concealing and disposing of a body, and offences relating to taking a minor for indecent purposes. Thai authorities have stated that he denies the murder allegation and maintains he acted in self-defence following a dispute inside the apartment.

Investigators say forensic examinations found signs of a violent struggle inside the condominium. Police have also referred to injuries and scratch marks observed on the suspect, which they say are consistent with a physical confrontation. Carman has offered a different explanation for some of those injuries while continuing to deny intentionally killing the teenager. The circumstances surrounding the confrontation remain part of the ongoing investigation and have not yet been tested in court.

Videos released after the arrest have also drawn widespread attention online. In one recording, Carman expressed sympathy to the victim’s family, saying he felt sorry for what had happened and describing the incident as being “out of my control.” Those comments have circulated widely across Australian and Thai media while prosecutors continue preparing the case.

The victim’s family has expressed profound grief following her death. Relatives have called for justice through Thailand’s legal system, while local authorities have assured the public that the investigation remains active and that all available forensic and digital evidence will be examined before court proceedings continue.

Australian authorities have confirmed they are providing consular assistance to the detained Australian citizen but have declined to comment further because the matter is before the courts. Thai officials likewise emphasise that the criminal proceedings are ongoing and that the accused remains entitled to the presumption of innocence unless proven guilty in court.

Under Thai law, a conviction for murder can carry severe penalties, including life imprisonment or the death penalty depending on the outcome of the judicial process. However, no verdict has been reached, and the allegations against the accused have not yet been determined by a court.

As investigators continue reviewing CCTV recordings, forensic evidence and witness statements, additional details may emerge during future court proceedings. For now, the released footage has become an important part of the public narrative surrounding one of the most closely watched criminal investigations involving an Australian overseas in recent months.
